If the leak from Android Police is to be believed, OnePlus might be the first OEM to test the latest Android Oreo update for its devices. The company is testing the Oreo update as a part of private beta as opposed to the Open Beta program. OnePlus has been blamed a lot in the past for not updating the OnePlus 2 to Nougat so this might be their way of cleaning their image. The company has set a very ambitious timeline in which they’re planning to push out a stable build by mid-September and opening the Public Beta by the end of the month.
Currently, the initial beta build is said to be unstable and incomplete. The communication stack is particularly buggy, with “nonfunctional NFC, buggy Wi-Fi, unstable hotspot, and wonky Bluetooth.”
It is interesting to see OnePlus working to push updates for OnePlus 3 and not for the OnePlus 3T or OnePlus 5. It’s possible that development is underway for all three devices, but only the OnePlus 3 has leaked out so far. It has to be noted that the company has clearly said that Android Oreo will be the last update for OnePlus 3 and 3T which came with Android Marshmallow out of the box.
