Google has stirred up a buzz among the people in India, ever since its tweet broke the internet last week. The company confirmed that they would launch the Google Home soon, with the tweet “Get ready to #MakeGoogleDoIt, at home too. Coming soon.” along with the images of Google Home and Google Home Mini speakers.
The tweet hasn’t provided us any information regarding the launch date. But, the search engine giant has started sending media invites to an upcoming event, scheduled on 10th of April. The invite reads “Join us as we bring you a sweet something that’s bound to keep you talking for a long, long while.”
Last Tuesday Google also revealed the launch of the new speaker set on Flipkart once they are launched on April 10. We are not sure whether the sale is Flipkart exclusive only or offline purchases are made available or not. Google India announced registrations for its upcoming speakers on the Flipkart app, which now has a landing page for the same.
An unverified screenshot posted by a Reddit user, revealed information regarding the Google Home, adding support for Indian origin music apps Gaana and Saavn besides Google Play Music. This looks like a marketing strategy to woo Indian customers. Amazon also launched its echo range of smart speakers offering music streaming via Saavn at the launch back in October last year.
The Google assistant, intelligence software integrated into both Google Home speakers is ready to receive support for Indian English in the near future after Hindi was rolled out to Google’s virtual assistant. By the end of this year, Google assistant will also be available in more than thirty languages.
To refresh your memory, Google had rolled out Home range of speakers two years ago in the US. The Google Home was launched in 2016, whereas the Google Home Mini was launched in 2017.
Whereas its competitor- Amazon Echo, Echo Dot, and the Echo Plus were launched in India in October 2017. The speaker set started selling via offline channel as well recently. The Amazon Echo, Echo Dot, and the Echo Plus are priced at Rs 9,999, Rs 4,499 and Rs 14,999 respectively. There is no information regarding Indian price list for Google home Products. In the US, the Google Home is priced at $129 (approx. Rs 8,400) and the Google Home Mini comes for $49 (roughly Rs 3,200).
Both Google Home and Google Home Mini are capable of performing functions such as playing music, translate, make calls, schedule event, making lists, answering queries, setting alarms, weather forecast, etc. It can also control your smart home devices with simple voice commands.
A quirky video went viral on Facebook a few hours ago, with an animated “reminder” query conversation that goes between the user and Google assistant to set a reminder for the upcoming event.
