Google’s Pixel 2 has one of the best cameras among its competitors. These days, smartphones come with dual cameras. Portrait mode is achieved with these dual cameras. In this mode, one object like person, flower, bird etc will be visible and background gets blurred to create the shallow depth of field.

While Brands like Samsung, Apple, and other top ones are dependent on dual sensors, Google Pixel 2 relies on software. The technology is termed as DeepLab-V3+ which uses semantic image segmentation model. The software assigns a semantic label for every object it sees through the camera. The labels include the person, sky, road, flower etc.

With the help of this technology, objects can be outlined. So, the outlined objects will be in sharp focus and the rest of background gets blurred. Technically, portrait mode is achieved with software without using dual cameras. Google has released Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL mobiles which have minor noticeable differences.

Portrait mode is achieved with software but with dual cameras, many other features like optical zoom and wide field of vision can be achieved.
